A New Charger for the Fleet...

Now that I've been getting active again, I found I needed to keep up with the changes in tech to better charge my batteries. I talked with some of the guys at the field, and saw they were using high capacity multi-port chargers. I needed something that could charge large LiPo batteries, maybe up to 6 cells. I found a great deal on a new HiTec X4-ACPlus. This should handle my charging requirements for a while :-) Here's a few pics...

The RC Workshop lives again!

I went pretty much inactive in 2019, and just recently got bitten by the RC bug again. My workshop had been re-purposed for other things, and most of my RC stuff was sold or put away. In April of this year, my oldest son came to visit a few days. We flew a little bit, went to a fly-in and a swap meet, and my interest in RC aviation returned. I got busy and worked in my workshop space, and got things back in order. I'm now active in the local club (RDRC) again, and having a blast. Here's a few pics of the shop...

I found a bunch of patches from days gone by, when I was an officer in the Wilson R/C Modelers and in Raleigh Durham RC.

Among other things, I found an old banner from the now defunct Hobby Lobby. My oldest son Chris worked for them a few years. We used this banner at fly-ins.

That scroll saw on the far left, and the belt sander in the middle, has been used to build many airplanes over the last 35+ years.

Many years ago, a guy named Lynwood Barbour hand painted a front tag for my van that said "Flyin' RC". I kept it for decades, but lost it somewhere along the way. Recently, while playing with my old CafePress page at http://www.CafePress.com/RDRC , I decided to put some artwork on their tags and have them print it for me. They turned out great!! Friday FlyDay at RDRC

A big crowd gathered at the field on Friday. Not unlike many other days for this group, I just happened to be there to enjoy it with this awesome bunch of guys. Lots of different things flying, lots of good talk and fellowship! It was HOT, but we all had a great time, nonetheless. Here's a few photos...

Airplane Hauler project, pg 14... cont'd

I finished up a bit more on the Airplane Hauler. My wife cut more vinyl to name the trailer "The Drake", in remembrance of a friend who put this idea in my head at least 15 years ago... Drake Edwards. A great guy with many years of experience in RC, and a master at building and flying Warbirds. I also ordered an inexpensive cover to drop on the trailer, to keep mug splatter and tree sap off of it when stored in my back yard. Here's a few pics...

RDRC Runway Repairs, 7/6/2022

RDRC hired a company to come out and seal the runway cracks and then seal the entire runway. Boy, that was a hot job, and a hot day to do it. The did a great job and the runway looks awesome, and ready for lots more flying and events! Here's a few photos...

Airplane Hauler project, pg 13... cont'd

3 weeks and 3 days after the beginning of the project, I finally pulled the trailer to the RDRC Flying Site for the first time, today. Wow, it pulls very quietly, smooth, and I can't even tell it's behind my little Ford Escape. My Escape is a 2002 model with 3.0 V6, and over 302,000 miles at this time, so I'm trying to keep the towing load as light as possible. I finished the trailer up and came in under $300 total expense, a far cry from the $3500 + I found on the new 5'x8' trailers, and most of the used trailers I found were at or beyond $2000. Here's a couple of pics, just before I headed to the field...
