Hots .40

In 1987, I built a Hots .40, fitted it with a Royal .45 & tuned pipe, and began flying. In high speed dives, the control surfaces would flutter. Extending the elevator tips forward of the hinge line solved the elevator flutter. Reducing the aileron widths about 1" at the root, and another 1" at the tips, solved aileron flutter. Next, extending the fuse length to push the engine forward about 1.5" eliminated the need for a bunch of nose weight. Tip plates on the wingtips, about 1/2" larger than the end rib, allowed it to be slowed waayyyy down for low speed maneuvers. The engine & pipe allowed for unlimited vertical performance. This thing was a hotdogs! My Hots is the middle airplane in the photo, taken at a FunFly in Gaffney SC in 1987...

This is all that was left, after driving it straight into the ground at full throttle, when a reciever failed at an event.
